The Detectives

The Detectives are a Rock and Roll band from Glendale, Arizona, playing classic Rock and Roll, and a tasteful selection of other styles. Check out our Song List to see what we're playing.

The Detectives were formed in 2000 when Neil Myers (guitar, vocals), Ralph Bustamante (guitar, vocals), Riad Mechlaoui (guitar), Shawn Hartsock (bass, vocals), and Dan Hoggatt (drums) started getting together, sharing a love for Classic Rock & Roll, Jazz, and Popular music. Jaice Myers (vocals, percussion) joined in the fun, providing both lead and backup vocals, and the occasional maracas.

They soon started playing gigs, choosing the name “The Detectives”. The band quickly found Craig Hayenga, our sound engineer, who proved to be worth his weight in gold (or at least free beer), getting the band’s good tone out to the audience.

When Ralph left the band in 2001, The Detectives decided to change their sound a bit by adding keyboardist John Schneider to the mix. Riad decided to take a new job in Italy, so the band moved on with only 4 members instead of the original 5. In 2006 Shawn and Dan left the band, and Carl Wenk (drums) and Lew Coleman (bass) joined The Detectives.
